In the early 1900's, Frank Gotch emerged from an Iowa farm to become the most exalted wrestler of all time. Gotch combined his natural strength and athletic talents with the coaching of the great Farmer Burns to become America's finest champion. On April 3, 1908, he climbed to the summit of the wrestling world when he defeated the legendary Russian Lion, George Hackenschmidt, in Chicago.
The immense popularity of Gotch prompted the initiation of high school and college wrestling programs across the US, a legacy that has endured over a century.
